Well folks, it is finally time to stick a fork in the Screencast 4 Cash contest and announce our winners! Before we spill the beans on the big news, though, the MindBites crew wants to extend a big ‘Thanks!’ and ‘Way-to-go!’ to all of the contestants for their great videos. We had a great total field of entries, including tutorials on Google Sketchup, Facebook privacy settings, Microsoft Excel, Gimp, Artisteer, Photoshop, Hulu, LinkedIn, and much more.

And, we definitely couldn’t have done it without our partners in this - TechSmith and its Jing Pro team (which makes and markets a fantastically affordable and capable screencasting tool), the good folks at DownLoad Squad (especially Grant & Christina), and our friends at the Youth for Technology Foundation. It’s been such a pleasure to get to know all of these organizations and the people behind the scenes that make them great. Finally, a huge thanks to Michael Pick, pro screencaster from WordPress.tv, who graciously joined our esteemed panel of judges. We couldn’t have asked for better folks to work on this with!

Now for the big news…(drum roll)

Grand Prize

The Grand Prize winner, who will take home $1000 and a shiny new Camtasia Studio/Snagit product bundle from TechSmith is:

Lydia Fielder for her lesson on Google Alerts, ‘Is Your Momma’ Talking Smack?’. Don’t be fooled by the funny title either. Lydia offers a great overview of using Google Alerts to track your current “reputation” online. As Michael Pick put it, “By creating a fun context for the learning, it becomes a lot more interesting to digest. Lydia’s voiceover is clear and bright, and her lesson is well thought through.” Big congratulations to Lydia!

Honorable Mention

The judging was such a tough decision though, that, for the first time we are announcing an official Honorable Mention, which goes to:

Marian Heddesheimer for his very cool tutorial on Creating Cool Sound Effects with Audacity. Marian was neck and neck with Lydia in the judges voting, but lost by a hair (no pun intended).

People’s Choice

And last, but certainly not least, the People’s Choice Award winner, who collected the most popular votes, will walk away with $500 and a copy of Snagit is:

Lon Naylor for his lesson, Displaying Camtasia Videos in a Lightbox.

And $1000 for the Real Superstars Among Us

Finally, a total donation of $1000 from Techsmith and MindBites will go to Youth for Technology Foundation. to help further their cause of helping “to bridge the digital canyon among disadvantaged communities in developing countries, starting with the continent of Africa.”

Thanks to all of our entrants and those who came and voted. All of the entries will be available for free viewing for another week. After which, they will be offered for sale in the MindBites marketplace in our Technology Category.
