Crafts for the Thanksgiving Table are Fun for Children of all Ages

Creating holiday table decorations is a wonderful art project to work on with children. Children always appreciate the opportunity to create something for their entire family to enjoy. Further, decorating your Thanksgiving table is a wonderful tradition to start and pass on to your children and their children. The memories will live on through stories and photos for years to come. Here are some examples of Thanksgiving art projects that should get your creative juices flowing

A personal favorite of mine is the turkey picture made out of a hand tracing. I have the fondest memories of making these pictures as a child, and actually still make them now. It is good clean fun and is an activity for even the youngest of children. If you cut these turkeys out and mount them on heavy paper stock, you can use them at each place setting as a little treat. Another idea is to glue a popsicle stick to the back and use them in a bud vase or mint julep cup as table decor.

Indian Headband Placecard Holder: This is an adorable project that can easily be made with construction paper, paint and a toilet paper roll and will make your guests feel extra special. Click the title for instructions.

Turkey Note Holder- These cute little turkeys can be used on your table, front door or refrigerator. All you need is a few supplies and you will be off and running with these turkeys (or is that running with the bulls?). Click the title for directions.

A woven Thanksgiving placemat is a fun activity to make out of foam and it will brighten up your table. Purchase foam sheets at any craft store. Cut strips of orange, green, yellow and read. Cut slits in brown foam sheet and weave strips through the slits. Glue foam leaves or fall decor on the corner of each placemat. A woven placemat kit can also be purchased at a craft store where all you have to do is assemble.

Use construction paper, felt and toilet paper rolls to create adorable pilgrims. These look so cute on the table and can be used for each placesetting or as part of the centerpiece.

Tin Can Turkey: To make this ridiculously adorable work of turkey art, all you really need is a tin vegetable can, felt and glue. Click title for “how to”

For a more elegant table, use card stock, ribbon and a Thanksgiving themed stamp to create a great look. Punch holes on either side of the card and thread the ribbon through the holes to create a custom, napkin holder. This idea can be used for any occasion.

I hope you enjoyed these ideas and will go on to create your own holiday projects for your table. Here at MindBites, we are thrilled when you share your own creations, especially if you tell us how you did it. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
