Introducing VideoSpin 2.0: Free Video Editing Solution

We have written several times on this blog about Avid software, including VideoSpin and Pinnacle. Today, Avid announced VideoSpin 2.o, what they are calling “an ideal solution for consumers with no video editing experience who want to quickly and effortlessly share their entertaining videos on the Web.” As with the first version, VideoSpin 2.0 is for Windows users only.
We have not yet downloaded the software to play with it, so I can’t make a full review. However, you might remember that Derek was not completely bowled over by the first version. At least 2.0 now supports .mov files, which will make life easier for many, but it is doubtful that the software is now able to capture video (which you will need if you are shooting from a camcorder). There is also added widescreen support for Youtube uploading and a fit-to-fill timeline feature. The free software does not support codecs unless you pay for the additional SpinPack. The purpose of this software is really to get you to purchase Pinnacle Studio, which is what we would recommend you do, anyway, if you are going to be editing much, or just want some flexibility in your editing software.
If you are looking to see if you like the Pinnacle setup, or your editing needs are just not that complex, the free software might not be a bad option. You can test it out at www.videospin.com. They also have some nice video tips on their site.
