Keeping My Resolution: My At-Home Workout Routine
by Alex in Life and Learning / 01.28.09
I have several resolutions for the New Year, and a few of them are tied together under the general umbrella of fitness and health. I am eating more fruits and vegetables, planning on picking back up my running routine which died over the holidays, and start an at-home fitness program, which will all culminate in losing at least 10 pounds. Whew. That’s a lot. But so far, the eating better is working and I have gotten a start on my weight-loss goal. To kick it into high-gear, it is time to start the exercise portion of the program. Luckily, MindBites just launched a huge addition to our fitness category with lessons from celebrity trainer Derek Duke Noble.
So, to keep me honest in my pursuits, and to share with you some of our fantastic lessons, here is my routine…
Lower Body:
Most of the UrbanFitnessTV lower-body lessons use an exercise ball, which I don’t currently own. Since the goal is to run, as well, I’m going to keep the lower-body exercises lighter. If I stick with the workout, and feel like I need more lower body exercise, I might purchase a ball later. For now, I will be doing:
Squats: Without the exercise ball, 2×15 to begin
Rear & Hamstrings: pelvic lift 2×15
Upper body:
Many of these lessons use resistance bands, which I happened to have purchased a set of this weekend. These are pretty inexpensive and can be found at most sporting good stores (I found mine at Target).
Push-up: Your standard variety, or with added difficulty of the exercise ball, 2×5-10
Biceps: curls with resistance band, 2×15 and reverse curls, 2×15
Deltoids: press with resistance band, 2×15
Triceps: dip in a chair, or on an exercise ball, 2×5-10
Trapezoids: shrug with resistance band, 2×10-15
Chest: fly with resistance band, 2×15
And, last but certainly not least, abs: crunch, reverse crunch, and oblique crunch, 2×15 each
Check back for updates on how I’m sticking with my goals…I’ll be sure to let you know if I fall off the wagon, but I certainly hope I don’t!
