QuickTime Pro ($30) is the easiest and best cross-platform application to use to brighten or adjust video footage.

First, download and install QuickTime on your computer. [Click images for larger view]

Next, open your video footage that needs to be adjusted in QuickTime Pro.

Then, open your video controllers by going under WINDOW > SHOW A/V CONTROLS. You can also just select [APPLE] + [K] if you’re on a MAC.

Now, adjust your settings by moving the slider left or right. For video you can adjust brightness, color, contrast and tint.

Finally, save as a different file name and export your video for the right platform (web or TV). Compress your video if you are uploading for the web or keep your video uncompressed if you are exporting to tape or playing on a TV.

If you do not want to spend any money on another program there is a free program called Virtual Dub that will do the exact same thing to your videos but with a little more need for explanation. I will explain how to use this program here in my next blog post.
