Sharing is Caring

Let me take you back to kindergarten, when crayons and coloring books were your life. I remember being the girl with the 8 pack of colors because my mom was too cheap, always envious of the kids with the 64 pack of colors. Think of all the choices and possibilities! Fortunately, Matty kindly offered to share his 64 pack of crayons with me which began our beautiful friendship. Whether it is sharing crayons, a new toy or gadget, or an intriguing idea, sharing spreads the wealth. Sharing is caring. That’s what I like to think about with MindBites. I like to view it as a place where people can share their knowledge about what they specialize in or their expertise of their favorite hobby.

Take a look at the different MindBites lessons. There are authors anywhere from experts to people with hobbies, or those who just have something they want to share. People have shared things with the MindBites community such as guitar techniques, cooking instructions, and communicating with babies through sign language. When you think about it, anyone can be an author. You can turn anything into a lesson – your passions, your hobbies, or even your business. People like to learn new things, and you, or anyone else, can make an instructional video lesson to teach them something new.

Maudie’s, a Tex-Mex restaurant in Austin, TX, has graciously shared a recipe for their salsa and Pico de Gallo. The great thing is that you don’t have to share secret recipes if you don’t want to. Maudie’s could have simply shared a technique on how to keep the salsa fresh or even preparation techniques. Although, it’s great for Maudie’s, because while sharing something they know, they are also promoting themselves as a business. Don’t be turned off from this idea though because businesses are not flat out promoting themselves. They are offering you something of value (a recipe and how to make salsa) while increasing the users’ familiarity with their business. As a business owner, that is always something that you can keep in mind.

Chances are that there are many people who share the same hobby or interest as you. Salsa dancing, knitting, or playing a musical instrument all offer something new for you to learn. MindBites allows you the freedom to share what you are passionate about. You can share your skills and tips with other hobby lovers, or even introduce them to a new hobby. It’s really nice to be able to share your passion with other people so that they can have the same enjoyment. I recently made a wallet out of some very basic materials – construction paper, magazine images, contact paper and thread. When I finished, all I wanted to do was share my finished product with others. The most common question asked was, how did you do that?

It really got me thinking that anyone can share his/her passion and knowledge. Even better, with the Internet, you are given the opportunity, ease, and convenience to teach a larger number of people, instead of always having to be there in person. It can be anything from what you do as a living, to something you just learned, like making a wallet. Reach into your mind and share with MindBites what you know!
