How to stop snoring

One-quarter (25%) of all adults snore habitually, according to Web MD. While often the subject of humor in movies and cartoons, snoring is no laughing matter for the millions of spouses whose quality of life is affected. Additionally, snoring can also be indicative of a serious health problem.

Snoring Causes

Snoring is caused by mouth and throat tissue obstructing the airway. Passing air causes tissue to vibrate and make noise. The narrower the passage, the louder the snoring. Several factors may contribute to snoring, including:

  • Soft palate structure — The size and shape soft tissue on the top and back of the mouth that includes the uvula and tonsils.
  • Sleep apnea — A potentially serious sleep disorder in which a person briefly stops breathing.
  • Nasal blockage — Chronic mucus problems or a damaged nasal passage can cause difficulty breathing.
  • Alcohol/sedatives — These cause the muscles in the mouth to relax and become prone to vibration.

I’m quite prone to snoring after having a few drinks. I’ve tried the SnoreMate and took some getting use to. But now it works like a charm.
